From the monthly archives: "August 2012"

I have decided that instead of doing longer Photoshop and Illustrator tutorials all the time, that perhaps it would be helpful to have a series of “mini” tips as well!

For this tip, we will be using the line tool and selecting the stoke function (Window<Stoke).  Make sure you check dashed line in the window.

See how easy it is?! Play around and see what you can do!  Feel free to ask questions in the comments if you run into any problems!

I am so pleased to announce that I will now be accepting sponsorship with the help of Passionfruit Ads!  This is super duper exciting because now you can sign up at any point in the month, and your ad will run for 30 days regardless!

I am so proud of this little site and I would love for your business or blog to be a part of it as well!  All recent posts have been featured on either Craftgawker, Foodgawker, or Tumblr!  Viewership has grown over double from July, and there is no slowing down!

I know I’m super shy, and if you are too, this method is great, all you have to do is click on the advertising page, and you’ll be able to checkout right then and there!

Also…now through August 31st, you can use promo code AWESOMESAUCE2012 and receive a 15% discount on any Large Ad spot!

Of course, if you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me!

So, I have a horrible addiction to that front part of Target with the dollar items (I know you know exactly what I’m talking about!).  I never need anything there, but I always manage to buy something.  Well, on one trip, the gentleman showed me this adorable letter “A” that I’ve seen at craft stores, and I knew I had to do something with it (plus, it was only $1)!

Anyway, I have an addiction to attempting to make things that look like they would be sold in Anthropologie.  I adore that store, but I don’t always adore the prices.  So, for about $1.25, I made a cute little decor item that could easily be sold for $12+!

Materials:

Cardboard Letter (mine was from Target, but I believe craft stores carry them as well)

Old Map (I always pick these up at estate sales)

Mod Podge

X-acto Knife

Directions:

1. On the back of the map, trace the outline of your letter.

2. Cut out the traced map with an X-acto knife.

3.  Apply a layer of Mod Podge to the cardboard, and the back of the map. Place the map on the cardboard and let it dry for about 20 minutes.

4.  Apply a layer of Mod Podge to the front of the map.  Let it dry.

5.  You’re done!   Of course this is an extremely customizable project, so hopefully I gave you a few ideas!

I have some pretty exciting news!  I am now offering sponsorship opportunities on the blog!  If you think your business/blog would be a great fit, check out the advertising page or contact me for more information!

Let me preface this post by saying I have never made a true pie before.  This was my very first endeavor, and being that I live in Georgia, I think it is a law that my first pie should be peach (and yes, the peaches are local!).

With that being said, let me tell you about my first pie making experience.

I wanted to try a recipe out of The Homemade Pantry ever since I got the book, and figured that basic pie crust was a perfect place to start.  Now I am officially convinced that is one of my must-have cook books!

The recipe was simple and easy to follow, which is a must for the novice pie maker such as myself.

I used Smitten Kitchen‘s recipe for the peach pie filling.  I’ve been a gigantic fan of Deb’s site for as long as I can remember, and I figured if anyone would be able to help me, she would.  Deb believes that you shouldn’t fix what isn’t broken, and that is why I love her recipe.

Smitten Kitchen‘s step by step instructions were wonderful, and I was able to follow along perfectly.

I also used her instructions for assembling and baking the pie.

Now, I know I have to work on my lattice skills (yeah…that whole over/under thing…), and also the pie edges, but that just gives me even more reason to make more pies!

Overall, it turned out delicious!  I was thrilled and the gentleman enjoyed it as well!  Maybe I’ll try blueberry next and I’ll definitely be making apple pies come autumn!
