I was asked to make a few fairy dust necklaces for a little girl’s birthday party, so I figured I would do a quick update on the original, showing these brand new colors!  I will always be a fan of the original colors, but I’m also loving these fun bright colors for spring!

Glitter from here.

Vials from here.

Brushed bronze screw eyes from here.

I dab a bit of super glue on the cork to make sure it stays, especially if little girls are going to be pulling at it!

(Can you believe each necklace is under $2?!)

Final step is adding the chain and off these go to their new wish fulfilling homes!  What do you think of the new colors?

I am and always will be a kid at heart.  I still adore anything related to princesses or Disney.  I will, on any random evening, watch a Disney movie while drinking Yoo-hoo!

But I digress…

If you have been a reader for a while, you know I used to run a handmade jewelry Etsy shop (and still have a few items available if you are interested). Since redirecting my energy towards Gallymogger, I find myself still wanting to create fun and whimsical jewelry every once in a while.

On that note, let me present my latest silly creation…the fairy dust necklace!

Here is what you will need:

small glass vial (I found mine here)

glitter

eye hook

necklace chain

jump ring (if necessary)

Directions:

1.  Create a funnel with a piece of paper and pour glitter in the vial about 3/4 full.

2.  Screw the eye hook into the cork

3. Cork the bottle (add a dab of heavy-duty glue if you are inclined)

4. Either thread the necklace chain, or use pliers to open the jump ring and connect the necklace that way.

5. Make a wish and get ready to look adorable!

All in all this is a very inexpensive project that makes a great looking gift!

Yes…you read correctly, I’m going to show you how to make your own glitter nail polish!  As you probably know, I am a HUGE fan of nail polish.  I paint my nails 4-5 times a week.  So, instead of spending tons of money on glitter polish, I wanted to see if it would be easy to make my own, and it was!

I chose to do a blue glitter since that is what I seemed to be lacking.  I’m also going to give yellow a try soon, and I’ll blog about that one as well!

Here is the end result:

Supplies:

1 bottle of clear nail polish (I used NYC clear topcoat)

glitter (any kind you like!) I like to use very fine glitter with some chunkier glitter mixed in.  I have a ton of glitter I purchased using coupons at Michael’s.  I refuse to buy any crafts if I don’t have a coupon, so I got this glitter (along with about 12 other colors) for pretty cheap.

You can also use a few drops of color with your glitter to give it a more opaque look.  I chose to use Ulta’s Bam-Blue-Zled.

..and i just have to show you how pretty the glitter is via insane mega close-up!

Disclaimer: I want to say as a recent nail biter, I apologize for the lack of beautiful nails you are about to see.

STEP 1:

Take a half full bottle of clear nail polish and if you like, tint it with a few drops of your colored nail polish.

STEP 2:

Using a creased paper, pour your glitter into the clear polish until the bottle is about 3/4 full.  This was the hardest part for me due to the large quantity of coffee I had in my system which resulted in very shaky hands.  So, don’t drink coffee right before doing this or you will make a mess.  Lesson learned.

STEP 3:

Give it a good shake!  In fact, next time, I might even try and buy some small metal beads or balls and drop 1 or 2 in the bottle.  It was quite a work out getting the glitter to mix!

The best part about this craft is how quick and customizable it is!  It took about 10 minutes, and my brain kept coming up with crazy color combinations!

There you go!  I hope you enjoyed this little DIY, and I would love to know if you end up making some!
